When the terrifying bushfires broke out in December 2019 the whole of Australia was shocked at the devastation and grief it caused to so many Aussies and people wanted to help anyway they could.
Nadine and Nick Daly from Daly Flooring and Carpet in Canowindra thought what can we do to help? So Nadine organised an appeal on Facebook to try and raise $2,000 for those affected by the bush fires. At first they started taking donations of clothes and other supplies and then the cash donations followed.
“I couldn’t believe it, within 4 to 5 days we had raised over $5,000,” said Nadine.
The money raised has been donated directly to the Capertee RFS. Capertee, a town north of Lithgow with a population of 80 people was surrounded by the monster Gospers Mountain bushfire for weeks as the blaze escalated out of control.
This amazing donation from local Canowindra residents will go towards new fire equipment for the Capertee RFS.
“Thanks to the community of Canowindra and surrounding villages for this kind and generous donation which will go to- wards the upgrading of station equipment and crew PPE,” said Steve Dalli, Captain of Capertee RFS who travelled to Canowindra to meet Nadine and Nick and accept the donation.
“I am so proud of being from such a small community such as Canowindra that has rallied and raised $5,098.17 for another small community in need,” said Nadine.
