Adam Sunderland, Matt Rice and Lachy Rice have spent over a week chopping at the 2025 Sydney Royal Easter Show. Highlights included Adam and Lachy winning third place as part of the inter-club relay for our Mid Western Axemans Association, Lachy competing in the NSW u/21s state relay side, also claiming third place and father and son Matt and Lachy Rice, competing in the Double Handed Sawing and the parent and child combination. Adam had a busy schedule competing in double handed sawing, standing blocks underhands and relays.
Lachy made three finals, the u/18s hc, the u/18s championship, but broke through with the win in the u/21s hc underhand final.
Lachy said of the win, “They were long
hot days in Sydney, but great fun. I learned from a few earlier mistakes and am pretty happy with finally winning on the last day of the woodchopping. I broke two axes as the timber was very hard but I made some new friends and learned a lot.”
NSW Axemans Association have invited Lachy to compete at The Royal Adelaide Show at the end of August. “There’s a gap in between my trial HSC and my exams, so I might be able to persuade mum to let me go,” said Lachy, who is currently a Year 12 student at Red Bend Catholic College, Forbes.
The woodchopping will be back at our Canowindra show bigger and better than ever this September so we hope to see everyone there for all the action.
