Phil Donato is glad that his relentless work on the Tilga St Crossing over the past year has resulted in a new School Crossing Supervisor being announced, pictured with Beth Gordon, P&C President Canowindra Public School, Sharon Hawker, Principal at Canowindra Public School, Ken McNamara, Principal at St Edward’s Primary School and Mandy Townsend St Edward’s Primary School P&F President.
The children of Canowindra will soon be able to cross at the Tilga St crossing between Canowindra Public School and St Edward’s Primary School safely, after the recent announcement that a crossing supervisor will be provided by the NSW State Government.
Minister for Regional Transport and Roads Paul Toole said the school crossing at Tilga Street was one of 80 locations across the state that would receive a new school crossing supervisor as part of the NSW Government’s plan to fast track the appointment of 300 new school crossing supervisors within three years.
After two decades of lobbying by both schools and parent bodies the announcement is a huge relief to all involved.
“It is great that parents can have the piece of mind that a supervisor will be there to assist the children to cross safely,” said Sharon Hawker, Principal at Canowindra Public School.
Member for Orange Phil Donato who has lobbied the government hard for some action to be taken said “It is great that it didn’t take a tragedy for the government to implement this school crossing supervisor”.
“This is a great outcome, it’s just a shame it took the Government so long to appropriately ensure the safety of school kids crossing Tilga Street in Canowindra,” said Mr Donato.
“The St Edward’s P&F would like to thank Phil Donato for all his efforts in bringing this to the attention of parliament over the past years,” said Mandy Townsend P&F President, St Edward’s Primary School.
