The Canowindra International Balloon Challenge was launched on Tuesday at the Canowindra Showground to local media. Student leaders from Canowindra Public School and Principal Sharon Hawker attended along with Duke of Edinburgh students from the Canowindra High School who will be involved in this year’s event helping the target teams.
With only one month to go until this year’s event the Canowindra Challenge committee are very excited to reveal some new additions to this year’s event. The Cabonne Country Balloon Glow this year will move across the road to the Canowindra Showground allowing the committee to expand the program. The Wine, Food and Craft Market will kick off at 4pm, followed by dancing by local dance groups. The Pilots will be on Parade from 5.40pm followed by Amitie and then the Balloon Glow starting at 7pm. The Peter Byrne – Forever Diamond Concert will start at 7.30pm with the evening wrapping up at 9.30pm.
There are 35 balloons registered so far for this year coming from around Australia, New Zealand, USA, France and England. These entrants include the current World, Women’s World, Australian and French Champions. The Canowindra International Balloon Challenge are very privileged to have engaged the services of Paul Petrehn from the USA as this year’s Balloon Director. Paul comes from the Balloon capital of the world Albuquerque, USA to the Balloon capital of Australia, Canowindra.
There will be four special shapes at the Balloon Glow this year and flying throughoutBalloon week from 21-29th April. “Jewel”
Hummingbird will return to Canowindra along with Nudie. And new this year will be “Kermie” the Frog and the Little Red Heart.
