The Country Education Foundation (CEF) of Canowindra was established to provide much needed financial assistance and support to local youth to help them achieve their post high school education, training and vocation aspirations. The CEF recognise that the cost of rural students pursuing their post high school goals is often much greater than those of their metropolitan counterparts and that sometimes these costs can be prohibitive.
Last week Canowindra’s Country Education Foundation gave out over $17,000 worth of grants to 14 local youths – it’s their way of saying that “we believe in you and want to support your goals”.
The CEF support a diverse range of education and career pursuits including apprenticeships, traineeships, cadetships, degrees, diplomas and certificate level studies or entry careers. This year’s recipients are studying across a broad range of disciplines, some of which include Nursing, Law, Fashion Design, Diesel Mechanics, Science, Beauty Therapy, Genetics, Education and Aeronautical Design.
The Canowindra branch has been work- ing for the last two years to gain funding through fundraising, like the film festival, and various grants – it has now provided the local youth of Canowindra with over $40,000 worth of grants. The major fundraisers for this year, the Music Concert headlined by Gordi plus a Golden Oldies Rugby match, have been postponed until later in the year with details to be provided when they arise.
