Canowindra Bowls News…

20 July, 2016 By Canowindra Phoenix Editor

MENS BOWLS
Last Saturday a major triples match was played with Terry Mooney, Brent Lees and Vinnie Mirto against Peter Taylor, Roger Traves and Dool. It was an entertaining game with the scores being close throughout the game and the lead changing several times. The scores were 17 all on the second last end and it was Brent’s bowl on the jack on the last end that won the game for Terry Brent and Vinnie 18-17. Thanks to Bob Robson filling in for Terry who had to leave urgently during the game. There was also a consistency singles game with Bruce Webb against Jono Preston. The scores were close after 13 ends with Bruce leading 85-80. Then Bruce took control for the rest of the game winning 153-122.

No championship games are drawn for this weekend due to the ladies having their triples tournament. Mixed mufti bowls continue this Thursday July 21 with names in by 1.00pm for 2.00pm start. All welcome. Bring a friend. A further reminder that membership subscriptions are now overdue for 2016-2017.

Please note that bowlers must be registered as full members to play any championship
games for the 2017 calendar year. Wednesday badge draw $1,100. Friday badge draw $400. Bingo this Thursday 11am. Four of our members are celebrating birthdays this month- Heather Hoad and Ellen Petty on the 22nd, Deanna Noble on the 23rd and Shirley Robson on the 26th. A very happy birthday to you all.

CANOWINDRA WOMEN’S BOWLS NEWS
The results of the Club Fours Championship Semi-final played on July 19 were: Joyce Middleton, Betty Jenkins, Colleen Crump and Gwen Haydon defeated Linda Miller, Bobbie Turner, Sheryn O’Malveney and Heather Hoad 21-14. There were two social games played- one three bowl pairs and one triples. Joice Mc- Naught and Libby Balcombe defeated Ellen Petty and Deanna Noble 27-18.

Diane Slattery, Jill Messenger and Margaret Gosper defeated Shirley Robson, Moyna Rue and Jo Davies 21-12. Shirley Robson won the Lucky Draw. She got the number one pick. On another note, the club has some great news. We have a President and a Secretary; Betty Jenkins as President and Ellen Petty as Secretary. On behalf of all members, I would like to thank these two ladies very much for filling these much-needed positions. All of our positions are now filled, and we can get on with bowls as usual.

Our Triples Carnival is being held on Saturday the 23rd and Sunday the 24th of July. We will be setting up on Friday at 2pm. The June Points scores were won by Joice McNaught, Sheryn O’Malveney, Moyna Rue and Deanna Noble.

The Men’s Club is having a working bee and rose pruning on Saturday 30th July at 9.30am.
