MEN’S BOWLS

Last Saturday a Major Pairs match was played with Garry Fairley and Ron Symons against Steve Kirkman and Ian Nelder. Steve and Ian got off to a good start leading 6-1 after 6 ends. Garry and Ron combined well and took control of the game winning the match 26-11. A Minor Singles match was also played with Nick Delaney against Tony Tuimauga. Nick was able to score five shots in the last two ends winning the match 31-28.

Last Sunday the fifth round of Pennants was played. The number 4’s went down to Grenfell 10 points to nil while the number 7’s won against Gooloogong 8.5 points to 1.5.

Friday April 5: Twilight barefoot mixed mufti bowls with names in by 6pm for 6.30pm start. One game of 15 ends.
Saturday April 6: Major Pairs – V Mirto and T Mooney v P Taylor and R Traves. T Tuimauga and P Markcrow v L Nunn and D Watt. M Lawrence and A Robson v D Beath and N Delaney.
Sunday April 7: The sixth and final round of Pennants to be played. The number 4’s play Dubbo Railway at home. Play will commence at 10am. Teams are M Lawrence, A Wyburn, W Fisher and P Taylor. V Mirto, D Beath, D Watt and N Delaney. S Kirkman, T Tuimauga, A Robson and L Nunn. The number 7’s have a bye.

WOMEN’S BOWLS

The 4th round of District Pennants was played on Thursday, 28th March. Cowra No. 1’s defeated Canowindra No. 2’s with an aggregate of 45-35, winning both rinks and scoring the maximum 5 points. The Cowra No. 1’s win the Pennant for 2019. Canowindra won the No. 2’s for 2019. The Playoffs will be held at Dubbo in May. Forbes No. 4’s defeated Canowindra No. 4’s with an aggregate of 39-37, each team winning one rink, Forbes scoring 4 points and Canowindra 1 point. Canowindra No. 4’s will play their last match against Parkes at Parkes on Thursday, 4th April.

Results of two Major Singles matches played on Tuesday, 2nd April. 2nd round – Jo Davies defeated Diane Slattery 25- 16. 3rd round – Gwen Haydon defeated Deanna Noble 25-23. Thanks to the markers Christine Pickard and Jenny Middleton.

Two social matches were played. Pauline Carroll, Liz Thornberry and Dianne Mooney defeated Shirley Robson, Penny Nash and Sandy McDonald 20-11. Jill Messenger, Joyce Middleton and Colleen Crump defeated Nancy Morrow, Jeanette Wheeldon and Libby Balcombe 20-16. The Lucky Draw was won by Colleen Crump with No. 6.

Bowlers please remember that the new starting time for bowls is 9 am for 9.30 am beginning on Tuesday, 9th April.
