MEN’S BOWLS

Last Saturday a major singles match was played with Steve Kirkman against Ian Nelder. After 20 ends Ian had a handy lead of 26-15 but after that Steve was able to bridge the gap and lead 30-29 on the second last end. On the last end Ian scored two shots to win the game 31-30.

Two minor pairs matches were also played. Larry Nunn and David Watt played Cyril Webb (Sub for Ron Lynch) and Brian McClintock. Cyril and Brian had a comfortable win 31-11.

Paul Markcrow and Nick Delaney played Tot Fisher and Phil Makin. Paul and Nick also had a comfortable win 19-12.

Last Sunday the minor singles final was played with Steve Kirkman against Tony  Tuimauga. Tony got off to a good start to lead 9-0 after 5 ends but after that Steve took control of the game to win 32-23.

Friday April 27 – Be sure to be at the club by 6.00pm if you wish to participate in the novelty event worth a jackpot of $600. This will be followed by twilight barefoot bowls with names in by 6.00pm for 6.30pm start. Besides the usual market night there will be a jackpot draw with draws of 1 x $300, 1 x $200, 1 x $100 and 10 x $50. Everyone is welcome to purchase tickets in the market night to participate in the jackpot draw.

Saturday April 28 – A trial match between No 5’s Pennant team and No 7’s Pennant team being practice for the No 5’s in lead up to the zone play offs. This match will start at 4.00pm followed by a barbeque.

Sunday April 29 – Major singles – N Delaney v T Tuimauga and Marker I Nelder. D Beath v G Fairley and Marker C Webb. M Cramp v P Taylor and Marker V Mirto.

Nominations for the Presidents Pairs, Open Pairs and Senior Pairs will close on Friday May 4. Nominations are now called for the major and minor fours.

WOMEN’S BOWLS

Results of two matches played on Tuesday, 24th April.

MAJOR PAIRS – 2nd round: Libby Balcombe and Jo Davies defeated Nancy Morrow and Deanna Noble 22-8. Jill Messenger and Colleen Crump defeated Joyce Middleton and Liz Thornberry 28-15.

There were two social games played 1 triples and 1 pairs. Moyna Rue, Joice McNaught and Gwen Haydon defeated Jenny Middleton, Jeanette Wheeldon and Christine Pickard 21-10. Penny Nash and Diane Slattery defeated Ellen Petty and Daph Bryant 19-14.

The Lucky Draw was won by Nancy Morrow with No. 29.

We held a very successful Street Stall on Saturday, 14th April. The winner of the raffle was Nola Meggitt. From Tuesday 1st May bowls will start at 9.30am with names to be in by 9am.

Matches drawn for Tuesday 1st May are: Major Pairs – Semi-Finals – Betty Jenkins and Dianne Mooney v Libby Balcombe and
Jo Davies and Jill Messenger and Colleen Crump v Radka Tatterson and Ellen Petty.
