After the astounding success that Canowindra Arts enjoyed with its “Impressions of War” Vietnam photo exhibition in April, the
group is set for another exciting program of events this year.
Next on the agenda is a major “Open” exhibition in July in which all member-artists are invited to take part. Its theme is “Art in July” but participants are invited to paint any theme they desire.
The official opening is scheduled for Friday July 6 at 5.30pm, with drinks and snacks, in the group’s current gallery at 48 Gaskill Street, Canowindra. The exhibition will run for two weeks, closing on July 20.
Along with public donations and grant money these shows are underpinning the group’s mission to revive and develop Canowindra’s reputation as a major regional arts centre in the Central West.
For the second year running, and thanks to a $3,000 grant from The Sally Foundation in Orange, Art Director Sue Hodge is continuing the group’s Art Mentoring Program for budding young artists, tutoring 10 junior and eight High School pupils in a 10- week course that will culminate in September with an exhibition of their works.
Canowindra Arts has increased its core of artists and bolstered its committee, but its workload is growing too with plans, for instance, to launch a photography section this year.
It’s an exciting time, and the group invites anyone who would like to be personally involved in this bold cultural venture to email
the Secretary, Louisa, at lulu7512@gmail.com.
