Local artists Sue Hodge is looking forward to welcoming students back in term 3 for her popular Art Mentoring Program.
Sue Hodge is excited to once again offer her Art Mentoring Program in Term 3 of 2026. Mrs Hodge has been running these lessons for over 10 years and says, “It’s always wonderful to see how much artistic talent we have amongst the youth of Canowindra”.
This year two age groups are being offered. A junior group for primary aged students and a senior group for high school students.
The program, consists of 10 Art lessons, and offers a range of learning outcomes.
Participants learn about and experiment with perspective, figure drawing, composition and use of shade and colour. Colour Theory is particular a favourite of Mrs Hodge due to her love of Van Gogh’s art and how he used contrasting and complimentary colours in so many of his famous pieces.
Participants also try various mediums such as chalk, oils, pastels, water colour and Acrylic paints. Mrs Hodge particularly loves the messiest lesson which is paint pouring. It is exactly how it sounds – pouring paint in layers over a canvas. “There have been some amazing paint pours done by students in the past,” Mrs Hodge says.
The climax of the program is the Art Mentoring Art Exhibition hosted by the students themselves and held in the last week of Term 3. Exhibiting work is an import skill artists need to learn.
The other thing that has changed this year is the venue. Canowindra Art Mentoring 2026 will be held at the Connections Centre on Blatchford St.
