Cabonne’s Commitment To Road Safety

15 May, 2019 By Canowindra Phoenix Editor

Two Cabonne bridges are scheduled to be replaced at a total cost of more than $2.6 million following partial funding from the Federal Government’s Bridges Renewal Program.

Cabonne Mayor Kevin Beatty has welcomed a grant of $700,000 for the reconstruction of Bangaroo Bridge, which links Cabonne and Cowra Shires over the Belubula River near Canowindra, and $644,500 for St Germains Bridge on Bocobra Road near Manildra. Work on Bangaroo Bridge is expected to cost more than $1.5m, while just under $1.3m has been allocated for St Germains Bridge.

Cr Beatty said the new bridges would enhance the safety of road users, which was a priority for Cabonne Council.

“Both projects are key parts of a $21.5m capital works program, which is the centrepiece of Cabonne Council’s draft Budget for 2019-20,” he said.

Cr Beatty said Cabonne Council would work closely with Cowra Council on the replacement of Bangaroo Bridge, which has been closed since March when inspections revealed damage to the structural integrity of the bridge.

As well as being a link between the two shires, Bangaroo Bridge provides access between Gooloogong, Canowindra and Billimari for a number of rural residents.

An alternative crossing of the Belubula River is available via Settlement Bridge Road until the new bridge is completed.
