Business of the Week … Riverview Motel

4 June, 2014 By Canowindra Phoenix Editor

Des and Julie are originally from Orange. Des worked in senior management with Prime and Win Television for 25 years.

Moving from corporate life to motel life was a very easy transition for the couple as they lived in Canberra, Perth & Wollongong before the relaxed lifestyle of Canowindra.

They purchased the motel in 2002 from Robert & Lucy Lynch who built the motel in 1999.

Des & Julie enjoy meeting different guests & building lasting relationships with them over the years.

What Des and Julie love most about running the motel is the people they meet, with one of their favourite events being the Canowindra Balloon Challenge as it brings in people from all over the world. They enjoyed the company of some Americans who stayed at the motel over the Balloon Challenge week. “When guests stay for about a week you do get to know them and start to build friendships with them, and the Americans were very friendly people”, Julie said. Even though running a motel is a 365 day a year job, they do make time to wind down and relax by taking holidays to the Sunshine Coast or simply taking time out.
