MEN’S BOWLS
Last Saturday three Major Singles matches were played. Roger Traves played Ian Nelder. After 30 ends the scores were close with Roger leading 25-23. Then Roger was able to score 7 shots in the next 5 ends to win the game 32-25.

Phil Lees played Larry Nunn where Phil led throughout the game to win 31-20. David Beath played Steve Kirkman where Steve led 16-14 after 13 ends. Then David took control of the game to win 32-19. A Minor Pairs match was also played with Tony Tuimauga and Westy Wyburn against Terry Mooney and Brian McClintock. For the first half of the game the scores were close with Tony and Westy leading 14-12. Then Tony and Westy were able to maintain their lead
winning the game 25-19.

Last Sunday a Major Singles match was played with Peter Taylor against Cyril Webb. After 14 ends Peter led 13-12 then Cyril took control of the game winning 33-24. A Major Pairs match was also played with Zac and Brent Lees against David Beath and Nick Delaney. After 19 ends the scores were level at 20 all then David and Nick were able to score 7 shots in the last two ends to win the game 27-20.

Friday March 1 – Twilight barefoot mixed mufti bowls with names in by 6pm for 6.30pm start. One game of 15 ends being turn around triples.
Saturday March 2 – Major Singles –  Watt v G Fairley and Marker T Tuimauga. P Lees v N Delaney and Marker D Beath. Minor Singles – T Mooney v L Nunn and Marker I Nelder.
Sunday March 3 – The first round of pennants commences with the No. 4’s playing Manildra at Manildra with play starting at 12pm. Teams are D Beath, A Wyburn, T Tuimauga and P Taylor. A Robson, B Lees, S Fisher and S Kirkman. M Lawrence, I Nelder, Z Lees and B McClintock. The No. 7’s play Manildra at home with play commencing at 12pm. Teams are P Lees, N Delaney, D Watt and T Mooney. W Fisher, R Traves, N Knight and B Robson. M McMullen, M Wright, L Nunn and R Symons.

Nominations for the major and minor fours will close on Sunday March 10.

WOMEN’S BOWLS

The Minor Singles Final was played on Tuesday 26th February. Betty Jenkins defeated Diane Slattery 25-22. Congratulations Betty the Minor Singles Champion for 2019. Betty you are now finally a Major. 3 matches were played in the 1st round of the Major Singles. Jenny Middleton defeated Sheryn O’Malveney 25-15. Gwen Haydon defeated Moyna Rue 25-7. Jo Davies defeated Jill Messenger 25-16. Thanks to the markers Radka Tatterson, Colleen
Crump, Nancy Morrow and Liz Thornberry.

There were two social games played. Joyce Middleton and Christine Pickard defeated Leanne Stevenson and Deanna Noble 18-12. Linda Miller, Libby Balcombe and Sandy McDonald defeated Bobbie Turner, Jeanette Wheeldon and Dianne Mooney 25-8.

The Lucky Draw was won by Shirley Robson with No. 17.

Matches drawn to be played on Tuesday, 5th March.
Major Singles 1st round: Sandy Mc- Donald v Libby Balcombe – Marker Jill Messenger – Dianne Mooney v Diane Slattery – Marker S O’Malveney.
Major Singles 2nd round: Christine Pickard v Deanna Noble – Marker Colleen Crump – Jenny Middleton v Gwen Haydon – Marker Moyna Rue.

I made an error in last week’s bowls news, the starting time for the Pennant practice is 8am not 8.30am.
