Bowl’s News

6 September, 2017 By editor

WOMEN’S BOWLS NEWS
Tuesday 5 September was the Central Western District Veteran’s Day held at Canowindra Bowling Club. A total of 60 bowlers from our District attended mainly from Cowra, Forbes, Parkes and Parkes Railway Diggers Clubs.

We had 14 teams of bowlers on the Ron Worboys Green and the weather did not lessen our enthusiasm for fun and friendship. The spider prizes were won by Ellen Petty (Canowindra), Ann Nixon (Forbes), Sandra McDonald (Canowindra) and Anne Castelli (Cowra). The lucky door prizes were won by Eileen Bradley (Parkes), Moyna Rue (Canowindra), Liz Thornberry (Canowindra) and Audrey Jones (Parkes). The three raffle prizes were won by Jeanette Davies (Cowra), Daph Bryant (Canowindra) and Sandra McDonald (Canowindra).

Winners on the day was the team of Janice Crump, Liz Thornberry (Canowindra), Eileen Bradley (Parkes) and Mary Everson (Forbes). Runner up was the team of Gwen Haydon, Merilyn Rodgers (Parkes), June Burgess (PRD) and Sandra McDonald (Canowindra).

A great day was had by all the bowlers and the recognition given to our vets by NSW Women’s Bowling Association was appreciated.

MEN’S BOWLS
Last Saturday an O’Brien Cup match was played with Allan Wyburn and Peter Taylor against David Beath and Phil Makin. David and Phil had no answer to Allan and Peter who were always in control of the game winning 36-25. Another O’Brien Cup match was played with Nick Delaney and Phil Lees against David Watt and Barney Robson. Nick and Phil had a comfortable win.

Saturday September 9 – Mixed mufti bowls with names in by 1.30pm for 2.00pm start. Sunday September 10 – O’Brien Cup – T Mooney and G Fairley v M Cramp and M McMullen. L Nunn and M Lawrence v C Webb and J Preston.

Consistency singles – P Kennedy v N Delaney and the Marker is S Kirkman.

Good luck to David Beath, Peter Taylor and Roger Traves who travel to Grenfell this weekend to compete in a triples tournament. Nominations are now called for the mixed pairs championship.
