Federal Member for Calare John Cobb has announced that the Federal Government will again provide more than $2 million to Lyndon Community for three important local projects. This will enable hundreds of residents to have access to the best specialist drug and alcohol treatments services in the central west. A substantial contribution will be made to the Lyndon Community outreach service of $426,00, of which Lyndon House in Canowindra will share the benefits.
Lyndon Community CEO Ed Zarnow believes this renewed commitment has the potential to improve the lives of many people in the central west. At the moment, Lyndon House in Canowindra has secure funding up until June 2016 which enables the current programs to continue as well as the running of the House. There will then be a review by the Government of all funding in this sector.
Drug and alcohol misuse costs the Australian community over 50 billion dollars annually in healthcare, lost productivity and family breakdown. This funding means we can continue to offer drug and alcohol treatment works which can help reduce those costs by helping people control or stop using problem substances.
