Billy Paul set up his carpet centre in 1967, originally where the Deli Lama is now. Then in 1976 he moved it to the old Strand Theatre building.
Billy sells a range of products including floor coverings (carpet, lino, timber flooring), beds, furniture, and blinds and awnings. All of the staff are local people and at present there are 5 employed on a part time basis.
Over the years, trends have changed in this industry. There is now a lot better equipment to work with, however Billy said that he is still working harder than ever. Billy has serviced Canowindra and district (within a 40 kilometre radius) for all this time.
In his spare time, Billy is involved with the Canowindra Fire Brigade, Lions, Community Bank and plays squash to keep fit – as well as being the fastest man with the hose and the hydrant for the Fire Brigade.
With 14 grandchildren and children spread across the length of Australia, from Rockhampton to Melbourne, Billy is thinking that it is time that he retired.
