Gaskill Street was packed on Thursday May 28th with people coming to support Australia’s Biggest Morning Tea, hosted by the Canowindra Community Health Centre. Despite the rainy weather, the morning was a great success with people from all over town dropping in for a cup of tea or a bite to eat. Tables and chairs were set out the front of Billy Paul’s Carpet Shop and everyone was welcome.
Canowindra’s Biggest Morning Tea raised $1879.50 towards cancer research, including $440.15 which was raised by raffling the beautiful patchwork quilt, handmade and kindly donated by Fiona Ferguson, and a basket of morning tea ‘goodies’ donated by the staff at the Community Health Centre. Congratulations to Ken Perry who was the lucky winner of the quilt, and to Phil Sargent who won the morning tea ‘goodies’ basket. The money raised at Australia’s Biggest Morning Tea events will go towards helping Cancer Council continue cancer research in Australia.
The organisers of the Morning Tea from the Community Health Centre would like to say a special thank you to Bill and Janice Paul for allowing the use of their shop, the generous cooks who brought along homemade sandwiches and sweets, Heather Slattery for her help all day, Debbie Flannery who kindly closed her café and directed patrons to the Biggest Morning Tea, and Tommy Jeffs who came to the rescue when the Morning Tea ran out of coffee cups. They would also like to thank everyone who braved the inclement weather to attend and support the event.
