This family from Forbes travelled to Canowindra for the Carp Muster and took home a swag of prizes including best mum, best dad, ugliest carp, boys under 13 years winner and boys under 15-17 years winner.
Sunday was a fantastic day for mustering Carp! Fresh air and fluctuating air pressure meant the fish were biting in the Belubula.
By the time the competition closed a bucket load of carp had been removed from the river, ready to be turned into fertiliser. Bait was mostly sweet corn or worms and that was enough to secure a haul ranging from 40cm to 68cm.
In addition to fishing, Sean from Ozfish ran an extremely interesting and well-attended workshop on wetland plants for the crowd that gathered while the fishing was still underway. It was enlightening to learn just how many native aquatic plants exist in NSW and how much life a few of these plants can support in a farm dam, billabong or stream.
Sean brought a selection of plants along with him and together attendees made water-plant torpedo’s out of hessian cloth and stones to help get our own wetlands established.
All good events need food and everyone enjoyed a free sausage sizzle provided and preprared by Central Tablelands Local Land Services with a little help from our local Landcare team, Tracee and Will.

Carp Muster was held during Biodiversity Month – aimed at increasing awareness around the importance of protecting and conserving our unique and varied ecosystems. Water is life and it was great to to see the community come together to care for our river and it’s surrounds.
