The Belubula River in Canowindra last week in flood.
Last Tuesday Canowindra residents woke to moderate flooding of the Belubula River after 3 days of solid rain in the area, not seen for some time due to the drought.
It was a huge reminder that the Belubula River can be unpredictable at times, rising from 1.6m to 3.6m in less than 12 hours.
Belubula Way, George Russell Drive and the Cherry Tree Falls Bridge were all closed due to the rising floodwaters.
The Canowindra SES unit was extremely proud of the community who, mostly, did not enter flood waters and turned around at road closed signs. Roads are closed for the protection of not only the community, but also for the volunteers protection so they do not need to enter floodwaters to rescue people.
The local SES would like to thank the local businesses in town such as RA & CM Kinsela Farm Supplies and Lawrence’s IGA Canowindra for supporting the volunteers throughout floods and storms, by releasing their employees so they can help out by being a volunteer with the SES or by supplying food and drinks to the teams.
