Be Entertained

30 April, 2014 By editor

Be Entertained is a new monthly feature that will seek to promote events in and around Canowindra. Many of us are unaware of events and entertainment that are occurring around Canowindra and we are hoping that this feature will encourage locals to get involved in local and surrounding events.

We are inviting organisations, pubs and clubs to contact us and let us know of any events that you will be hosting. We are happy to include these advertisements in this section as well as our ‘what’s on’ section.

Canowindra Community Players

The Canowindra Community Players are presenting the first musical they have attempted – “TC & AJ Talent Scouts.” This is the original work written by CCP members Ian Guihot and Anthony Hamer. The show revolves around two music promoters who move from the city in search of local talent. Over five years, they experience some success with an all-girl heavy metal band (the South Side Scum Sisters), but they fall on hard times. In a last ditch effort to ‘have it all’ they set about manufacturing a Boy Band – with a twist…

We are asking for groups from the community who wish to assist with food service to please contact Ian Guihot on 0428082711. Performances will take place at the Canowindra Services Club on the dates of Friday 20th and Saturday 21st of June, 27th and 28th of June, and the 4th and 5th of July.

Tickets are available from the Canowindra Services Club and Safi’s on Gaskill Street at the cost of $35 each and includes dinner.

Chicago

Murder. Greed. Corruption. Violence. Exploitation. Adultery. Treachery. Set amidst the razzle-dazzle decadence of the 1920s, CHICAGO is the story of Roxie Hart, a housewife and would be nightclub dancer who maliciously murders her on-the-side lover after he threatens to walk out on her. Desperate to avoid conviction, she dupes the public, the media and her rival cellmate, Velma Kelly, by hiring Chicago’s slickest criminal lawyer to transform her malicious crime into a barrage of sensational headlines, the likes of which might just as easily be ripped from today’s tabloids.

Trish Aumuller, Barry Patterson & Jazz Hyde head the very talented cast as Velma Kelly, Billy Flynn & Roxie Hart, who each sing and dance their way through an array of production numbers featuring some dazzling costumes. They are ably supported by Alan Moxey as Amos Hart (Roxie’s seemingly invisible husband), Cin Jackson as Matron Mama Morton – Queen of the Cook County Jail, Nick Smitch as Mary Sunshine and an Ensemble that sing, dance and tap their way though production number after production number.

With a book by Fred Ebb and Bob Fosse, music by John Kander and lyrics by Fred Ebb, CHICAGO is the winner of six 1997 Tony Awards including Best Musical Revival and the Grammy Award for Best Musical Cast Recording.

Directed by Bruce Buchanan & Sam Fuda and choreographed by Jamie Key with Amy Coad picking up the Baton as Musical Director and costumes by Angie Mason CHICAGO features an array of Broadway smash hits one after another.

Chicago will be performed at the Orange Civic Theatre from 9th -18th May 2014. Booking through the Theatre on 63938111 or through Ticketek.
