Each year since its inception Canowindra Baroquefest has run a Schools Program, bringing together world class musicians and groups from our local schools. This year the Baroquefest committee has embarked on a program which will not only mean that it can double the number of children it reaches but it broadens and extends the learning experience, making it more meaningful to each child that takes part.
By combining the resources of Canowindra Baroquefest with the resources of Musica Viva in Schools, up to 300 primary school students from schools within a 50km radius of Canowindra have the opportunity to participate in a program specially developed by professional musicians and music educators.
Letters have been sent to all the primary schools within the 50km radius inviting them to join the program. While Musica Viva supports the musicians and produces the resources, Baroquefest is offering each school a substantial subsidy, so that the only cost that falls to the school is a cost of $2.90 per child attending. Baroquefest has offered to pay the rest of the cost of the program.
For small schools in particular this organisation of a combined event in a central venue presents an opportunity they would not otherwise be able to consider because they haven’t enough students to meet the minimum 150 required attendance. So small schools are a particular focus in 2017.
Reminder notices asked teachers to return their booking forms by 18th August, however this deadline has now been extended. So if your school still hasn’t booked please do so by contacting Judy McLaren judymcl@bordernet.com.au ASAP.
