Author Anne Ring will be at Canowindra Library to talk about her book Engaging With Ageing.
Ageing is a part of life, so let’s talk about it. This is the philosophy of author Ann Ring, who will be presenting a talk on her new book Engaging with Ageing at the Canowindra Library on Tuesday 12th March at 2pm.
We all get older, and yet ageing is a topic that is often ignored altogether or treated as something wholly negative. We are bombarded with products and lifestyle hacks to wind back the clock, perpetuating the stigma of old age. In Engaging with Ageing, Anne Ring challenges this with a fresh, new and wholistic perspective on growing older. The book acts as a personal ‘travel guide’, helping readers to navigate the way they individually choose to age.
Through real world stories that inspire and resonate with readers, backed by cutting edge research, Engaging with Ageing explores the gamut of ageing-related topics, from staying healthy and fit, retirement, sex, looks and lifestyle to planning for a good death, and everything in between.
Ultimately, the book empowers its readers to actively engage with how they will be old rather than how old they are.
Anne is an 80-year-old health sociologist whose understanding of ageing matters comes from extensive experience both professionally and personally. Her PhD thesis in health sociology looked at 50 years of health, body image and ageing issues as they were presented in the popular media, and since then she’s continued writing extensively and being “old and happy about it”.
