Anzac Day commemorations will take place on Monday 25th April in Canowindra, marking the 107th anniversary of the landings at Gallipoli.
The Canowindra RSL Sub-Branch would like to extend an invitation to all Canowindra residents and visitors to join in to commemorate ANZAC Day this year. The day’s programme of events are as follows:
• 6am: ANZAC Day in Canowindra will commence with the Dawn Service in Memorial Park, Gaskill Street, Canowindra at 6am, following this service a gunfire breakfast will be served at the Canowindra Services and Citizens Club from 6.30am, all welcome.
• 9am: A short wreath laying service will be held at the Soldiers’ Tower at the Canowindra Soldier’s Memorial Hospital, with wreaths laid by RSL Sub-Branch and the Canowindra Hospital Auxiliary.
• 10.30am: The main service will commence with a march along Gaskill Street, those wishing to march are required to assemble near the Junction Hotel at 10.30am to form up and march off at approximately 10.45am. The main service will begin at Memorial Park at 11am.
This year local resident Tony Grant will be the guest speaker at the Dawn Service and will be sharing letters from a WWI relative.
The Canowindra RSL Sub-Branch will be selling fundraising merchandise outside IGA this Friday 22nd and Saturday 23rd April so head along and support the branch.
The Sub-Branch has also sponsored the Trophy for the Tin Hat Day at Canowindra Golf Club which is usually played the Sunday before ANZAC Day (24th April). This year will be the 70th consecutive year it has been awarded, and some of the Sub- Branch members will be at the club at 4pm on Sunday 24th April to award the trophies to the winners.
