After two years of COVID interrupting day to day life and events it was great to see a large turn out for the ANZAC Day Services in Canowindra on Monday.
Around 300 people joined for the ANZAC Day Dawn Service in Memorial Park this year. A small service was then conducted at the Canowindra Soldiers Memorial Hospital which is celebrating 100 years this year.
The March along Gaskill Street made a come back this year with the RSL-Sub Branch and local veterans leading the parade followed by teachers and students from St Edward’s Primary School, Red Bend Catholic College, Canowindra Public School, Canowindra High School, Cargo Public School, Canowindra PreSchool and Canowindra Fire and Rescue.
Lieutenant Alex Morreau from the ADF in Canberra was the guest speaker at the 11am service and delivered a moving address to the crowd. “We meet today not to celebrate or glorify war but to remember the fallen,” said Alex.
The Canowindra RSL Sub-Branch would like to thank the following organisations for their assistance to commemorate ANZAC Day 2022: The Australian Defence Force, Cabonne Council, Canowindra Fire and Rescue, Lawrence’s IGA, Canowindra High School and the Canowindra Services and Citizens Club.
“As the RSL Sub-Branch are just a small group of members we would not be able to hold the day without your assistance. It was wonderful to see the community come together again to commemorate this very special occasion,” said Christine McIlvain, President Canowindra RSL Sub-Branch.
