The Acacia Quartet will be performing Sunday, 7th May at the beautiful All Saints Church to raise funds for their upcoming Baroquefest in September.
The Acacia string Quartet, comprising two violins, viola and cello, was formed in Sydney thirteen years ago. Members Stefan Duwe and Lisa Stewart, moved from Sydney to Canowindra about two years ago and now teach at Orange Regional Conservatorium.
Canowindra Fine Music Inc. have been helping to organise and promote an upcoming concert by Acacia Quartet to be held at All Saints Church on Sunday, 7th May at 3pm.
The concert will feature compositions by: Alice Chance (Australian) – Precious Colours; Ludwig van Beethoven – String Quartet No. 10, Op. 74 ‘Harp’ and Franz Schubert – String Quartet No. 14, D801 ‘Death and The Maiden’
Lisa Stewart said, “When I practice Schubert’s slow movement from his Death and The Maiden, I am grateful to Doreen Cumming, Stefan Duwe and Anna Martin-Scrase, Acacia Quartet, for making me feel brave enough to conquer my previous fear of learning the first violin part.”
The second movement is a theme and variations based on a song entitled Death and the Maiden, a song Schubert had composed in 1817 when he was twenty years old. The song sets a poem by Matthias Claudius, in which Death comes to claim an adolescent girl who is not prepared to go quietly.
