A Marathon Effort!

25 June, 2025 By Canowindra Phoenix Editor

Special guests, Andrea and John Barwick (centre) with the dancers eager to begin the 12 hours of dance.

Last Sunday, almost 100 dancers converged on the Canowindra Services Club to Jive, Waltz, Cha Cha and Swing their way across the floor for Canowindra’s annual 12 hour dance.

This annual event, now in its its seventh year attracts people from near and afar, with participants on the weekend attending from across the Central West and as far as Brisbane, Sydney, Newcastle, Bega, Wagga, Melbourne and Canberra.

Barry Whitty provided live music for the first six hour set of the day from 10am to 4pm, featuring a program of 26 dances including everything from the Tango to the Foxtrot. In the second set from 4pm to 10pm, Phil Redenbach kept the dancers out on the floor with a “choose your own dance” program.

A highlight of the event was a series of special dance demonstrations throughout the day by Andrea and John Barwick, well known dancers and choreographers in the dancing fraternity.

Andrea and John say dancing should not only be a pleasure but also a challenge to exercise and maintain physical and mental wellbeing.

“Social dancing for us is a great way to get together with friends, make new friends and get the most out of life,” said Andrea Barwick.

Event organisers Gail and Graham, would like to thank everyone who came along and supported this great event. Thank you to everyone that helped make this happen and of course the sponsors Canowindra Services Club Cabonne Council and The Blue Jacket Motel Canowindra. The day would not have been as successful without the support of musicians Barry Whitty and Phil Redenbach and MC Doug Moorby.

Congratulations to the 31 participants pictured here that made it to 10pm, many of whom did not stop dancing for the full 12 hours (with meal breaks of course).
