Lachy Rice’s woodchopping skills have been going from strength to strength, with the 16 year old winning his first Open 300mm Underhand Handicap Final at Blayney Show on Saturday, 2nd March. He also placed third in the Open 275mm Underhand Handicap and second in the Junior Handicap.
In fact Lachy has recently improved so much, that he has been selected in the NSW under 21s Team to compete against Australia’s other States, New Zealand and possibly the USA. Lachy would like to thank Brad De Losa, Australian and multiple times World Champion, for instructing and keeping an eye on him.
The weekend was a family affair, with Lachy’s younger brother Alex (aka Big Al) winning the Junior Race and father Matt Rice also made the standing block final. Fellow Canowindra chopper Adam Sunderland won the 275mm Open Standing Block Handicap, making it a successful day out for the Canowindra choppers.
Lachy will compete at the NSW State Athletics Championships this weekend. Then back to woodchopping the following weekend at the Yass Show, before heading to Sydney for the prestigious Royal Easter Show competition at the end of the month.
