Rugby Union

12 August, 2015 By Canowindra Phoenix Editor

Like the Wallabies, the Canowindra Pythons faced off against their rivals West Wyalong Weevils on the weekend in their last home game for the season. An offload by Ed Price saw Joe Keady score and Tom Roth successfully converted but West Wyalong kicked a penalty goal taking the score to 7-8.

Craig McKenzie was everywhere on the field and made a lot of ground but West Wyalong scored and converted to take the score to 7-15 at half-time. After the break West Wyalong scored again and the score was 7-20, but Ed Price scored making the score 12-20.

With strong tackles and good offloads from Adam Nash, the Pythons turned it around and Luke Watt scored with a conversion from Tom Roth. The score was at 19-20. With eight minutes left, Craig McKenzie scored with another conversion from Tom Roth to win the game.

The competition is now over and the finals will begin this weekend with the Pythons travelling to Molong on Sunday to take on last year’s premiers.
