Go Team!

25 March, 2015 By Canowindra Phoenix Editor

11024801_10153171449171967_5241750154409263823_oTeam Canowindra consists of 12 people from various backgrounds including nursing, paramedics, teachers and farmers. The team will be taking part in The Weekend to End Women’s Cancer in Sydney which will consist of two 30km walks for 2 days in a row to raise funds for Chris O’Brien Lifehouse.
Sasha Mckenzie, who moved to Canowindra last year, completed the 2014 walk, “the girls from Canowindra supported me on my last walk and then decided they wanted to take part this year…then next minute husbands wanted to be involved and we had a team!” she said “we all have different reasons for doing this but one common goal is to help improve treatments. The research done at Lifehouse will spread to surrounding areas and hopefully benefit us in the Central West.”
Hats are available to buy at the Canowindra Swimming Pool until the end of the season and a new style of black cap is coming in soon (for the blokes that don’t want to wear pink!). Team Canowindra will also be selling hats at their Balloon Glow stall on 18th April. “We’re still looking for a major sponsor for our shirts but so far everyone has been very generous. I’d like to thank Tommy from the Deli for helping run the Trivia Night with Anne Maree, he also made about $600 worth of donations. I’d also like to thank Lisa Cartwright, she has been amazing. She sent out over 300 letters trying to get sponsors for us, you’re a gem!” says Sasha. You can keep an eye out for Team Canowindra round and about town training at the Fitness Path in their ‘aggressive salmon’ shirts, as one of the team members likes to describe them.
