Local Events…December

17 December, 2014 By Canowindra Phoenix Editor

Things are getting steamy at the Royal Hotel in the lead up to Christmas with three sizzling hot bands playing on the 20th December. Static Nomadic, Simone Thornett and Oli Statham will be entertaining patrons all night long with a selection of modern and classic music on the Saturday and local superstar Bonny Wythes will be serenading you all on Christmas Eve.
If you can’t wait that long to get your musical fix, Canowindra Hotel patrons are in for a treat tomorrow night. Glen Van Reason and his one man band ‘The Reason Being’ will be playing live all evening. If you fancy yourself as a bit of a singer Karaoke nights are now up and running too so stay tuned and get practising!
Imagine a world ruled by fish! At the Age of Fishes, it’s easily done. Long before dinosaurs roamed the Earth, the rivers of the Central West were alive with bizarre fish which can still be seen today at the Museum. Manager Warren Keedle and the staff have lots of fun, fish-filled activities lined up for you over the holidays…
Fins to Flight
An exhibition of astounding images from world renowned wildlife photographer, Akos Lumnitzer. These stunning images highlight the ecological and evolutionary progress from Fish to Birds. The exhibition will be on public display from 1st January to the 2nd February 2014 in the foyer of the Age Of Fishes Museum Canowindra. Entry to the exhibition is Free of Charge.
School Holiday Activities
As well as our world class fossil displays and renowned retail collection, a mystery of epic proportions is unfolding at the Age of Fishes Museum these school holidays. 360 million years ago in a fishy town named Mudhole Springs (Canowindra) a puzzling mystery took place. A precious and very rare gemstone has gone missing, follow the clues and find out who was responsible for this crime. If you manage to solve the crime you will take home your own precious gemstone as a reward! Each participating child from 5 ears to 15 years old will be given a llsit of suspects with their museum entry and can cross them off as they’re eliminated by following the clues hidden around the museum.
What happened?
Mudhole springs is a thriving Devonian community, all of the action takes place 360 million years ago when fish ruled the earth. Our hero Ossi the Grossi (Canowindra grossi) is new in town and after a night out at “Jimmy’s Oxygen Bar” his precious fin-ring gemstone has gone missing. We need junior detectives to follow the clues and find the secrets, can you solve the Mystery in the Mudhole?
