Spotlight On Medical…An Eye For An Eye And The World Shall Soon Be Blind

Today is World Sight Day, an annual day of awareness which focusses global attention on blindness and vision impairment.
This year, the call to action for World Sight Day is No More Avoidable Blindness. This will draw attention to the key interventions that are crucial for the success of the initiatives target- to reduce avoidable blindness by 25% by 2019. Optometry Giving Sight was established in 2003 by the World Council of Optometry, the Brien Holden Vision Institute and the International Agency for the Prevention of Blindness to mobilize support from the global eye care industry to help eliminate people who are needlessly blind or vision impaired- currently estimated at more than 600 million worldwide. Forbes optometrist Phillip Wells has joined the campaign to raise $1 million for universal eye heath. Phillip Wells Optometry is taking part in World Sight Day Challenge, run by the charity Optometry Giving Sight, during October to help give the gift of vision to those in need.
Now in its 7th year, the World Sight Day Challenge is the largest annual global fundraising campaign to address avoidable blindness caused by uncorrected refractive error, which basically means needing an eye examination and glasses. Today, Phillip Wells will make a donation to help more than 600 million people in the world who are blind or vision impaired because they lack access to those things we take for granted.
“I have been supporting Optometry Giving Sight for 38 years,” Mr Wells said. “Preventable blindness is a solvable problem and we are proud to help give sight to those in need. We are thrilled to be contributing to this year’s $1 million goal, which will change a huge number of lives.”
Just $5 can be enough to help provide an eye exam and a pair of glasses to someone living in an undeserved community. Phillip Wells Optometrist is located at 67 Rankin Street, Forbes. For more information about World Sight Day, or to book an eye appointment give them a call on 68522914.
Astley Mobility has some hot offers on pre-loved items at the moment. Grab a mobility scooter in store for only $3,800 which would cost you $6,900 brand new. Or how about a 3 wheel scooter, perfect for Mum which new would cost $3,900 but a pre-loved one at Astley Mobility is just $1,500. Come into the store and see for yourself at 194 Lords Place, Orange or give them a call on 63614200.
