Girls, It’s Time To Look After You!
“If a woman is in good health, her family, community and the society around her all benefit.” Dr. Jean Hailes.
We know it! We know that when we feel better, everything is easier. Too often however, when the pressure is on, the first thing to go is our time and care for ourselves. This Friday and the next, we are going to explore tools for women to create better health for themselves without depleting family or work life –bringing benefits to both!
“I never have enough time!” We hear and feel it constantly, there is just not enough time in the day. It has been said that the only thing we are born with is time; it is up to us to choose how we use that time. Yeah, yeah, very philosophical…doesn’t change the fact – I don’t have enough time!
Three tips – 1. Do the one minute things. (And encourage those around you to as well!) Hang your clothes up or put them in the wash straight away, rinse the dish and put it in the dishwasher, put the shoes in the bedroom, throw away the envelope when you open the bill and put the bill in the to-pay file. Anything you can do quickly, do it – this stops things from piling up to much bigger jobs.
2. Find the big rocks. A friend of mine recently helped me to re-organise the reception area of my work place. Her strategy was to remove everything and just keep the one thing that was the focus – the new desk. Then with everything out, just bring back what you really want. The same applies to our life, take time to prioritise, clear away the clutter of all things that fill your life and decide what the main priorities are, the big rocks that are really important. The first one is your health, if you are not well you simply cannot do all the other things. Let everything else fit around it – and only bring in the things you really want!
3. Don’t say yes straight away. Pause before you answer when someone asks you to do something. Is this really the best way you can help, are you the person they need or is there some other way you can help? It’s much harder to pull out after you have committed – when you realise that this is just too much – again!
