More than 80 historic vehicles, all over 100 years old, will travel through the Cowra region next month as part of the 2026 National Veteran Vehicle Rally.
Every vehicle taking part is a survivor from the earliest years of motoring in Australia.
Many have been carefully restored to authentic condition, while others remain original. They are a remarkable demonstration of the craftsmanship, skills and knowledge of the pioneering automotive manufacturers.
The oldest vehicle on the Rally will be a 1908 Cadillac, the youngest, a 1918 Buick car and a 1918 Harley Davidson motorcycle.
Over 185 rallyists, their families and friends will stay in Cowra from Sunday 6 to Saturday 12 September, exploring Cowra and surrounding towns including Canowindra, Gooloogong, Grenfell, Greenthrope, Carcoar, Mandurama, and Woodstock.
Veteran motoring is often a family tradition, with a significant number of the vehicles being operated by third and fourth generation members of veteran car families. On the 2026 National Rally will also be some of the movement’s younger members, and several women drivers. Drivers are asked to give the veteran vehicles plenty of room.
The vehicles will mostly be on quieter roads.
Rally organisers are asking other road users to please be patient and give the vehicles plenty of room. Veteran vehicles generally travel at speeds of between 30 and 70 km/h and need a bit more distance and time to stop, to accelerate and negotiate traffic.
Some of the drivers may also use traditional hand signals rather than indicators.
There will be opportunities where for local residents and visitors view the cars and meet the drivers. Veteran vehicle enthusiasts are passionate about their cars and are always keen to share the stories behind their vehicles.
• Sunday 6th: Afternoon, some vehicles will be at Rally Registration at the Cowra Antique Vehicle Clubrooms at the Cowra Railway Station.
• Monday 7th: Woodstock for morning tea, lunch at Carcoar, return journey to Cowra via Mandurama and Belubula Way.
• Tuesday 8th: Greenthorpe for morning tea at, Grenfell for lunch, local shopping and visit the Chrysler Museum.
• Thursday 10th: Morning tea at Gooloogong Log Cabin, Canowindra for lunch, a town walk and the Age of Fishes Museum.
• Friday 11th: Lunch at Wyangala Dam.
