Swooping Season: August–October marks breeding season for Australian magpies, and with it comes the annual swooping drama. Here is a list of steps to stay safe:

• Avoid known swooping zones: If possible, take a detour.

• Protect your head: Wear a wide-brimmed hat, carry an umbrella, or add zip ties to your bike helmet.

• Don’t run: Running can trigger a chase. Walk calmly and confidently while keeping an eye on the bird.

• Be extra careful on bikes: Slow down or walk your bike if you’re passing through a hotspot.

• Respect their space: If a magpie swoops you, it means you’re too close to their nest. Give them space until breeding season passes.

Fifth Sunday Fun Dance: This Sunday, 30 August the Canowindra New Vogue and Social Dance Group will be holding their 5th Sunday Fun Dance. Head along to the Canowindra Services Club from 1pm – 5pm for their P Party. Come dressed as something beginning with the letter ‘P’ and bring along some food beginning with ‘P’.

Whether it’s fake emails, unexpected phone calls or online schemes, scammers always find new ways to gain your trust and steal your money or personal information. But these three simple steps can help keep you safe from scammers.

• Stop: Don’t give money or personal information to anyone if unsure.

• Think: Ask yourself could the message or call be fake?

• Protect : Act quickly if something feels wrong.

Trek4Kidz: Michelle Fisher has embarked on the Trek 4 Kidz rally and is having a fantastic time whilst raising money for sick kids through the Starlight Foundation. Departing from Wagga Wagga, on 22 August, the rally is travelling through NSW and SA towns such as Barham, Renmark, Nuriootpa, Wentworth and Hillston, ending in Parkes on 29 August. Congratulations Michelle on this amazing fundraising effort.
