The Tigresses should be as proud of themselves, as all of the their supporters were of the effort displayed by these girls last Sunday, playing only with the bare numbers cold and wet conditions. It was always going to be a very close tussle against all rivals Cargo who are minor premiers, and it proved to be so.
The score was nil all at half time after a very entertaining game of League Tag. Both sides were defending very well, with the Tigeresses a little unlucky not to be leading as they did make a couple of line breaks, but the Cargo defence held out. Cargo was first to put points on the board through a penalty goal to lead 2-0 halfway through the second half. Shortly after the Tigresses capitalised on a line break with Laura Price scoring near the post and Lily Bannan converting to take a 6-2 lead. In the closing stages Cargo mounted an attack on the right hand and were able to get a pass away just in time to score in the corner to level the scores at 6 all. The conversion attempt was unsuccessful, with this being the score at full time.
Extra time saw a little fatigue setting in, but the girls were still playing strong and unfortunately gave Cargo a couple of backto-back sets and a good pass found their speedy winger to score out wide this try was converted and they led 12 points to 6 in the first 5 minutes of extra time. Tigeresses tried hard to level the scores as time was running out. Cargo close to the post, put a field goal over with only a minute remaining to clinch the win. This week the girls take on Eugowra at Cargo on Saturday.
