It wqas a very cool day in Oberon last Saturday. The Tigers took on competition leaders in the first grade and the league tag girls looking to consolidate fifth place on the ladder.
League Tag The league tag was a very entertaining game with neither side giving an inch early and Oberon starting the game better, going out to 10-0 lead. The tigeresses finally warmed up and put on two very good tries through Teagan Hunter and Addison Newcombe to lead 12-10 at the break.
The girls put on a great display of league tag, moving the ball well and displaying some very good kicking to gain good field possession. Addison scored her second try and Laura Price put on an exceptional try, kicking through the line and then soccer kicking the ball for a beautiful bounce up into her arms to score under the post.
Lily Bannon then converted, taking the score out to 22-14 with the Tigeresses on top. Tegan Hunter enjoying a great game, then put on some very skillful play to score under the post. Tigers too the score out to 28-14 and looked home and hosed, but Oberon came back with two late tries in the final eight minutes to put a little pressure back on the Tigeresses, who finished the game victorious 28-24.
First Grade The Tigers were depleted of numbers due to injuries and playing on Saturday. The team fielded the bare number of 13 to play competition leaders and their spirit and dedication to the side must be commended throughout the enitre game. They never gave up, but on the day Oberon were far too strong, running out winners 66-4. The Tigers luck once again went against them, losing Bailey with rib injuries and Josh Cooney through a concussion protocol.
This left the tigers with only 11 men for the second half. The Tigers players, some carrying injury, didn’t retire to keep as many players on the field as they could. Despite being down, they played some entertaining football at times and in the first half scored a very clever try to Moey Phillips.
Next week we take on Blayney. This is the last home game, and the last game of the competition rounds before the semifinals start. If things go to plan, it looks as if the girls will finish in fourth place. Best of luck to our first-grade team.
