Meeting explains Kendal Street redevelopment

6 August, 2014 By Canowindra Phoenix Editor

Major redevelopment of Kendal Street into a pedestrian and shopper-friendly precinct was the topic of a recent stakeholders meeting for affected businesses and property-owners at Cowra Council.

The Roads and Maritime Services (RMS) meeting explained how next year’s redevelopment of the main street will involve the complete redesign of the Street as part of the Cowra CBD redevelopment.

All Cowra residents are now being invited to a public meeting on the development which will be held at Cowra Public School’s Hall in Vaux St on Wednesday, August 13 from 7pm.

The meeting will discuss options relating to road closures and detours and the staging of work and is not to do with the structural elements of the plan which have already been approved by Cowra Shire Council.

The recent stakeholders meeting covered a range of important issues and was able to dispel concerns regarding the $3.5 million redevelopment, RMS Project Manager Angelo Emmanuel said.

“The meeting went very well and we were able to explain a lot of the issues that were raised on the night,” Mr Emmanuel said.

He urged all residents affected by, or with an interest in, the redevelopment that is set down for early 2015 to attend the August 13 meeting.

“This meeting will explain the major issues to do with the project and how it has been designed to limit the impact on businesses, residents, shoppers, and commuters as much as possible,” Mr Emmanuel said.

The work is being funded in partnership with the Roads and Maritime Services to the tune of $2.3 million with Cowra Council recently expressing their appreciation of this funding and support.

The project follows the near-completion of the Railway Lane renewal that represented the first stage of the CBD redevelopment.
