Canowindra residents are being advised to expect a sudden, loud interruption on their mobile phones next week. A nationwide test of Australia’s brand-new emergency warning system, AusAlert, is scheduled for Monday, 27 July 2026, at precisely 2:00pm.
During the test, all compatible mobile devices across New South Wales will receive a simulated ‘Critical Alert’.
Even if your phone is switched to silent or ‘do not disturb’ mode, the device will vibrate and emit a loud, distinctive, siren-like warning sound for approximately 10 seconds. A clear text message will also display on your screen, indicating that it is a TEST ONLY and requires no emergency action.
Managed by the Australian Government, AusAlert is a cutting-edge warning network designed to keep communities safe during major crises, such as bushfires, floods, and public health emergencies.
