Artist Sue Hodge pictured with one of the African themed artworks that will be showcased in her upcoming exhibition.
Earlier this year, Sue and Russell Hodge had the extreme pleasure of taking a holiday in South Africa.
The trip only came about through a series of unfortunate events, including and primarily the war in the Middle East. Their original plans were to spend several weeks in Israel. However having friends in South Africa, they changed plans and headed off on a adventure to the wild lands of South Africa.
“Spending three and a half weeks in South Africa was overwhelming, amazing and very exciting,” says Sue.
When they returned to their beloved Canowindra, neither of them wanted to forget the awesome experience they’d had. One way Sue, a professional artist, has done this is to capture the highlights of their trip on canvas.
Ths August, Sue is bringing Africa to Canowindra in the form of an Art Exhibition at Rosnay Wines based on her time in South Africa.
Sue said, “It’s been wonderful getting up every morning and reliving some of my experiences, thrills and sights of South Africa in the way of painting.” Sue has completed nearly 30 paintings covering a wide range of subjects. “I didn’t just want to portray that all was wonderful in South Africa, so there is a water colour of a beggar going through the rubbish.
“But on a whole, the pieces are of animals and landscapes. I’ve also done both large and small, fun and traditional and a few different mediums.” It’s is definitely not Sue’s normal style but what she has tried to capture is the variety of colour, sights, feelings and experiences she and Russell had on their time away.
