The Canowindra Historical Society and Museum Inc. were among the exhibitors at the Volunteer Expo.
The vibrant heartbeat of Canowindra was on full display on Saturday 13 June, as the Canowindra Services Club Hall transformed into a bustling showcase for the town’s Community Groups and Services Expo.
Organised and hosted by Debbie Rutter and the Canowindra Creative Centre, and funded by ‘The Centre for Volunteering and the Australian Government Department of Social Services’, the event brought together over 30 local community and volunteer organisations under one roof.
Groups on display included the Craft Shop, the Age of Fishes Museum, the iconic Tractor Trek, the Canowindra Garden Club, the Canowindra Progress Association, the Canowindra International Balloon Challenge, the Canowindra Historical Museum, and WIRES wildlife rescue, among many others.
The hall was alive with energy from the outset, kicking off with a beautiful opening performance of three songs by the Canowindra Choir. Attendees browsed a diverse array of stalls highlighting the incredible breadth of local volunteerism.
The day was a true community celebration, complete with family-friendly face painting courtesy of the Harvest Church, a classic sausage sizzle kept firing by the Lions Club, and lively musical accompaniment from the Tin Shed Serenaders.
Among the crowd were representatives from Cabonne Council and the Federal Member for Calare, the Hon. Andrew Gee MP. Both took the opportunity to mingle with attendees, expressing their formal thanks and congratulating the stallholders for their unwavering dedication to the district.
Ultimately, the expo served as a powerful reminder of the selflessness that defines the region. Volunteers are the backbone of our town, generously donating their time, skills, and energy to make our community the wonderful place it is today.
