Blythe
One of those volunteers is Blythe, who has been volunteering at the Age Of Fishes Museum Canowindra for 13 years.
In her role, Blythe is often the first friendly face visitors meet. She works at the front desk, guides visitors around the Museum, and provides information to help people make the most of their experience. Whether it’s sharing knowledge about exhibits or helping visitors find locations around town, Blythe plays a key part in creating a welcoming and informative environment.
Blythe was inspired to volunteer through her strong interest in science and history, passions that align perfectly with the Museum’s mission. For her, the most rewarding part of volunteering is simple but powerful, helping people.
“I like to hope that I help the community,”
Blythe says. “I provide information that is needed and help people find locations.”
Rob
Rob is one of those dedicated volunteers, supporting Cabonne Home Support and Community Transport services. For almost three and a half years, he has been a committed Meals on Wheels NSW (MOW) volunteer, and for over 12 months has also contributed to Community Transport.
Rob plays a vital role delivering meals to residents across Canowindra, Eugowra, Yeoval, Manildra, Cumnock and Molong.
On Tuesdays, he travels further afield delivering frozen meals, while on Thursdays he focuses on local deliveries closer to home. He also generously gives his time transporting community members to medical appointments in Cowra and Orange when needed.
For Rob, the most rewarding part of volunteering is the connections he builds along the way. “Meeting people, sitting and talking to them, making friends and listening to their stories” are moments he values most.
Through his volunteering, Rob provides more than just a service, he offers companionship, care and connection. “Sometimes I am the only person they see in a week,” he says. “So I think it’s pretty valuable to be able to sit and talk to them if I can.”
Robyn
Robyn has been a dedicated volunteer at the Age Of Fishes Museum Canowindra for seven years, playing an important role in supporting both the Museum and the wider Canowindra region.
As a Tourism Officer, Robyn promotes the Museum and proudly showcases all that Canowindra has to offer. Her work helps ensure visitors leave with a positive and lasting impression of the region.
Robyn was inspired to begin volunteering after retiring, wanting to stay active and engaged. For Robyn, volunteering brings many rewards, from keeping her mind active to enjoying the variety that each day brings. “Every day is different, and I meet new people,” she says.
