The number 6 grade pennants team travelled to Manildra to play their first round of zone 4 playoff.
It was a very close match all the way throughout, with Orange City holding a slight advantage midway through the match. With 12 ends remaining two rinks were even and Canowindra were behind by one on the other.
Canowindra led on the big board with five ends remaining by a narrow margin.
Canowindra won two rinks, with Roger’s team won by 3 shots and Teddy’s team fought back very well to win by one shot.
Brent’s team had great tussle against Orange side led by the experienced Bob Hamilton. The squad watched on the last four ends hoping for a clean sweep.
Canowindra held shot on three ends only for the opponent to take the end away by the opposing skip. Brent’s team finally went down 23/16 which secured the big board 63/60 to Orange City. The result points went to Orange City 8/2.
Canowindra now travel to Parkes to play Dubbo City on Saturday morning and Bourke on Saturday afternoon. Canowindra has a bye on Sunday morning and play Coonabarabran in the afternoon.
The team suffered a further blow when zone authorities advised Canowindra had
lost their two points from Saturday as team organisers missed post sectionals rules that were a little different to first sectional play. This also means two players are not available for the next rounds of play.
Canowindra are still confident of a good performance with the players selected on the weekend. Teams are as follows:
• Mathew Lawrence, Glen Seton, David Beath and Brad Bourke.
• Roger Traves, Phil Lees, Michael Traves and Warren Rodis.
• Brent Lees, Ben Rooke, Arthur Robson and Corey Rooke.
• Reserves Eryn Traves and Deb Hood.
Play commences at 8.30am on Saturday and players are to organise their own transport as some are staying over and others are opting to travell on each day.
Players are reminded to be in approved uniforms and hats with the appropriate stickers on their bowls, thank you.
On Friday night we have the twilight bowls dinner, hopefully all players that participated take the opportunity to book in. A small presentation will follow after the meal.
Thanks for all the players who played over the summer making out twilight bowls a success and thanks to all the organisers.
Thursday afternoon bowls are still experiencing good numbers, especially with the weather being excellent on most days. All are welcome for a 2pm start.
Social bowls are available on the weekends for anyone who wants a roll up.
Due to various reasons, no competition bowls can be played but the following weekend, 23 May games will be on again.
There will sheet on the board for Triples and O’Brien Cup competitions.
Badge draws for this week are Wednesday $1,300, Friday $700 and Sunday $250.
