Canowindra Commemorations For ANZAC Day 2026

15 April, 2026 By Canowindra Phoenix Editor

The ANZAC Day commemeorations in Canowindra always draw a large crowd to the cenotaph.

Canowindra RSL invites the community to honour veterans during ANZAC Day.

On Friday, 22 April, from 8:30am until 3:30pm, Canowindra RSL sub-Branch will be fundraising outside Lawrences IGA.

This is a major source of income for the sub-Branch. Please consider supporting us so we can continue to support local veterans and host ANZAC Day.

On 25 April, the Canowindra RSL subBranch is holding ANZAC Day commemorations to honour the service and sacrifice of Australian and New Zealand personnel in all conflicts at the War Memorial in Canowindra Memorial Park. The public is encouraged to attend to reflect on the cost of war and the ongoing contributions made by veterans and current service men and women.

Dawn Service

Attendees for the Dawn Service are asked to assemble at Memorial Park before 6am when the service will commence. Attendees are also reminded to dress warmly, there will be an opportunity to lay a wreath.

The service will be followed by a Gunfire Breakfast at the Services Club hosted by the Canowindra RSL sub-Branch, any donations would be happily accepted. At 9am a Wreath Laying Ceremony will be held at Canowindra Soldiers Memorial Hospital.

Main Service

Veterans, family members and community organisations wishing to march are requested to form up at the corner of Gaskill and Ryall Streets by 1030 for the march along Gaskill Street to Memorial Park.

The Main Service will commence at 11am, after the parade’s arrival at Memorial Park.

The 1st/19th Battalion, the Royal New South Wales Regiment are providing a catafalque party and the commemorative address will be presented by Lieutenant Colonel Phil

McMaster. The commemoration service will conclude with a wreath-laying ceremony symbolising respect for the fallen.

In the lead up to Anzac Day, Canowindra Historical Society and Museum will feature profiles of a number of local men who served in WWI on their Facebook page, while the RSL and Museum have jointly created a display of WWI and WWII photographs and objects in the Services Club.
