In arguably the hottest week of this summer, over 300 budding cattle industry enthusiasts braved the scorching temperatures to converge on the Australian Livestock and Equine Centre in Tamworth for the 2026 NH Foods Angus Youth Roundup.
Held from 7-11 January, the NH Foods 2026 Angus Youth Roundup encourages, promotes and provides a wonderful learning platform for anyone aged between 8 and 25 years of age interested in the Australian beef cattle industry.
While the event encompasses a number of competitions aligned with cattle preparation, handling, showing and judging, a large focus is placed on educational sessions and team building activities, designed to encourage and inspire the next generation to remain active in the beef industry.
Canowindra’s Fraser Wythes experienced a high level of success across multiple competitions at the event, claiming two championship ribbons.
Fraser kicked off his winning streak on day four in the cattle classes, leading Overall Champion Commercial Heifer, Shorthorn cross Nabiac Quantum’s Jestress, 16 months, owned by Nabiac Livestock and Lane Evans. Backing up on day five, Fraser beat out 59 other competitors in the show ring to claim the title of Champion Sub-Intermediate Parader.
In other results, older brother Marcus Wythes placed first in his Intermediate Heifer class with Diamond Miss T38 Redwood V437 and first in his Intermediate Paraders class, to move onto the championship round for both completitions. Former Canowindra resident Poppy Starr also had a successful show, being awarded the Merridale Angus Aspiring Breeder Award at the Gala Dinner on Saturday night.
