Cabonne Council Announces Australia Day Ambassador Taylor Corry

21 January, 2026 By Canowindra Phoenix Editor

Paralympic silver medallist, is this year’s Cabonne Shire Australia Day Ambassador.

Cabonne Council is proud to announce Taylor Corry, two-time Paralympic silver medallist, as this year’s Australia Day Ambassador.

Taylor’s journey to the world stage is a testament to resilience and determination.

Starting swimming at age nine, she quickly emerged as a standout para-athlete, winning eight gold medals at the 2011 Global Games before claiming two silver medals at the London 2012 Paralympics at just 17.

She went on to collect further medals at the 2013 and 2015 World Championships, make a strong comeback with a relay bronze in 2019, and break multiple national records, including holding the most Australian swimming titles ever achieved by a female multi-class swimmer.

Beyond her sporting success, Taylor is a passionate advocate for inclusion and encourages young Australians to pursue their goals. As an Australia Day Ambassador, she celebrates unity, diversity and the spirit of perseverance that defines her story.

Joining Taylor as part of Cabonne’s Australia Day celebrations is Youth Ambassador Nicholas Gibson, a 23-year-old Cumnock local. Nicholas has been actively involved in community initiatives, volunteering with local events, schools, churches, and agricultural programs, demonstrating strong commitment to community, and the future of agriculture.

On Australia Day, Taylor and Nicholas will attend ceremonies and community celebrations at Cargo (10.30am to 12pm) and Canowindra (1.30pm to 3pm), meeting residents, presenting awards, and sharing their stories to engage and inspire the community.

Australia Day events across Cabonne will feature community events, award presentations, barbecues, and more. There is also free entry to all of the Cabonne Pools on Australia Day.

The Australia Day Ceremony in Canowindra will be held in the Canowindra Services Club Community Hall from 1.30pm-3pm with the Official Party attending.

Full event details, locations, and times are available on Council’s website.
