Men’s Bowls

8 October, 2025 By Canowindra Phoenix Editor

Two games of consistency were held over the Labour Day long weekend. In the first match on Saturday 4 October Larry Nunn played exceptionally well throughout the game against Roger Traves. Midway, Roger caught up the handicap and the game could have gone either way. Larry pulled the big bowls he needed to win the match in style.

On Sunday 5 October, Tony Tuimauga played newcomer Bob Cann. Tony had big handicap to pull back and did so around the 100 points stage of the game. He continued to build a good lead, only forfeit his lead due to excellent draws bowls from Bob. It was anyone’s game going into what was to be the last end and Bob scored a a 7/3 to clinch the match. These consistency matches can all lead to interesting outcomes as it a handicap event and the result is never a done deal.

On Monday 6 October we had 12 bowlers turn out for a social afternoon of social bowls. Thanks for Chris filling in at short notice to make up the numbers. The result in the games were close with Roger and

Greg winning the day on 12 points and two other winners on 11 points.

Larry Nunn continues his unbeaten form defeating Jamie Stewart in consistency singles on Tuesday 7 October. On the 14th end there was only 10 points between them and Larry drew away to lead comfortably. Jamie S rallied and wore him down towards the end 145/135 and Larry finally got the game 151/139.

This week we will attempt to get more singles and O’Brien cup matches played. The triples semifinal will be played the following weekend on 18 October and depending on results, the final will follow.

Friday twilight bowls will commence this week with a 6.30pm start.

Badge draws are Wednesday $700, Friday $500 and Sunday $400.
