Tigers Defeated In Final

27 August, 2025 By Canowindra Phoenix Editor

The Tigers went down to Manildra to the tune of 32-12 after being 12 points all at the break. The Tigers started the game well and looked dangerous, dropping the ball over the line from a backline attacking right side in the first five minutes. With Manildra on the attack, a long ball was intercepted by Ryan Clark who ran 90m to score Canowindra’s first try in the preliminary final, Rob Burn converted and Tigers lead six nil after nine minutes.

Manildra hit back with tries in the 13th and 28th minutes of the game and went to a 12 -6 lead. The Tigers wearing down the opposition and playing entertaining football, scored in the 35th minute from Lawrence spinning out of defenders to score and converted by Burns to lock up the scores.

Manildra were first to score in the 9th minute of the second half to lead 18-12.

The Tigers had an opportunity to score minutes later from a spilled bomb, but the Tigers were called offside inside the ten metres, Manildra received the penalty and from ensuing play scored their 4th try to lead 24-12.

The Tigers still fighting in the match had a couple of opportunities, but the last pass went astray, denying the Tigers valuable points. Manildra having a glut of possession in this period put up a bomb, and from a miracle bounce away from the Tigers players, Manildra swopped onto the ball scoring out wide to break the Tigers back and lead 28-12. Manildra scored a late try in the dying minutes to take the final score to 32-12.

The score certainly did not reflect the toughness of the match and it was a day where Manildra took their chances, with some luck at times, and the Tigers didn’t.

The club would like to thank the sponsors, coaches, trainers and the players for their commitment throughout the year and not to forget their partners for their support.

The presentation will be held on 6 September at the Bolwing Club, so please book your tickets early.

The annual general meeting will be held after October and our long serving treasurer will be stepping down, as well as our president. This will provide the opportunity for others to step up and be a part of a very good sporting club.
