Men’s Bowls

27 August, 2025 By Canowindra Phoenix Editor

An O’Brien Cup match was played on Saturday 23 August, Roger and Eryn played Dool and Peter. The handicaps were very close and an even game was had.

With no one giving an inch, Roger and Eryn slowly built a lead midway through the game 19/11. Soon after, Dool and Peter gained a four on an end which put them back in the game. Roger and Eryn lead 20/19 with two ends to play but Dool and Peter took the lead on the second last end 21/20 and finished the match with a single shot on the last end to win 22/20.

On Sunday, a major triples match was played between Ben Tony and Roger against Michael, Brad and Barry. There

was nothing in this game in the early stages, with both only scoring singles at the midway point the scores were only 10/9.

Barry was leading very well against the major singles champion, however Tony hit his straps and led his team to a victory.

Michael had little luck with his attacking bowls. Even though it looked a comfortable win 26/17 the ends were 11/10 in favour of Roger, Tony and Ben.

We now have one side of the draw in the final and are waiting for other side to catch up. Both the Triples will hopefully be completed soon and the O’Brien Cup is getting close to semi-final stages. The Fours Open Competition is now open and will close in two weeks. Consistency singles will also close at the same time.

Badge draws this week are Wednesday $450, Friday $600 Sunday $350. Music in the lounge this Saturday is the last of our winter series of entertainment. Simone Thornette is a highly regarded musician and we are looking forward to seeing her perform.

Even though the Tigers didn’t make the grand final, bowing out to Manildra on the weekend, they performed well over the year. The Tigers Club should be congratulated on a successful year, with all teams making the playoffs.
