Home Semi In Canowindra This Saturday After Loss

13 August, 2025 By Canowindra Phoenix Editor

Canowindra Tigers played minor premiers Oberon in the qualifying semi on Sunday going down to the tune of 45-10. The Tigers had nine players unavailable due to injury and work commitments but they put up a great effort. Oberon scored the first try early but the Tigers hit back with two tries to lead 10-6. At this time the Tigers were on top as Oberon were making fundamental mistakes giving the Tigers good field position. Oberon forced their way into the Tigers 20m which paid dividends with their lock scoring and jumping to 12-10 lead.

The Tigers forwards were strong and from play on the edge, Lawrence slipped a ball to Ryan who hit the hole and was on his way under the post only to be called back for a questionable forward pass. The host went further ahead with a try next to the post just before half time to lead 18-10. While on the

Oberon 20m a Canowindra player made a comment which saw him sent to the bin for 10 minutes, just 25 seconds before the break.

Playing with 12 in the second half, Oberon ran in tree tries to take the game out of the Tigers reach 34-10. The Tigers tried hard but were running out of steam and went close to scoring on a couple occasions but Oberon held them out. Oberon scored two late tries and a field goal on the bell to seal the win.

A big thanks to the juniors that backed up from their semi in Manildra.

Tigers League Tag Successful

The Tigeresses won their sudden death semi defeating Grenfell 26-8. It was impressive win running five tries to two. The girls controlled the game with great ball skills and put pressure on Grenfells defence, and you could see it was only a matter of time before they would crack. Laura Price scored three tries, Lilly and Talethia scored one each.

Kelly Harrison had a great day controlling the ball and putting on moves that any team would be proud of. She was backed by all players doing their job. They now play Cowra at Cowra on Sunday.

Tiger Juniors

The Tigers had their chances, but poor discipline and mistakes cost them the game, with Manildra winning 26-24. The Tigers at one stage, realising having a man down puts too much pressure on your team in semi-final footy.

The Tigers closed in on Manildra at full time to level the score, forcing extra time.

The boys scored in the 67th minute and looked to have the game leading 24-20. But they knocked the ball on off the kick-off and a teammate instinctively fell on the ball in an offside position. Manildra wanted the win more, and applied pressure, capilitising on the Tigers mistake. From the insuring penalty Manildra tapped the ball and barged over under the post, then converted making the score 26-24 with seconds on the clock.

Special thanks to the boys who backed up in Oberon for the first-grade side. Thanks to Paul and Troy for your time with the team throughout the year.
