Grab Your Rods For The Canowindra Carp Muster

9 July, 2025 By Canowindra Phoenix Editor

Do your part to improve the health of our river and enjoy a fun filled day out while you do it.

Get your rods ready and your game faces on – because the Canowindra Carp Muster on Sunday, 20 July. This is more than just a fishing comp – it’s about community, caring for our local river, and having a blast while doing it.

Join OzFish and Mid Lachlan Landcare for this fun, family friendly fishing and cleanup event to remove as many Carp as we can, helping to improve the health of our local waterways.

Our natives are at risk from invasive European Carp, so it’s time to band together and remove these destructive bottom feeders from the Belubula River and surrounding wetlands. While we’re at it, we’ll clean up some rubbish from around and in our waterways.

It’s free to enter and there’s fantastic prizes up for grabs for the biggest carp, with categories for kids, teens and adults as well as most carp caught as a team or a solo legend! There will be a prize for ugliest carp – because beauty is in the eye of the angler. In order to enter your carp into the prize categories, you must also collect at least 50 items of rubbish from local waterways. A prize will also be given for most rubbish collected.

Bring along your fishing gear, and please wear sun-safe clothing and enclosed shoes. Make sure to bring drinking water and snacks for the day.

Registration is at 6am at the OzFish hub at the Age Of Fishes Museum in Gaskill St.

Competitors must be back at the Museum for weigh in from 2pm to 2.30pm and no late submissions will be accepted.

This event is also a Yabby Trap Drop Spot! Bring along any old and unwanted opera house yabby traps and get an OarGee Plow lure. Opera house nets are illegal in NSW and those collected will be recycled into useful products for anglers, with the proceeds being used to support habitat restoration.

Registration is essential at https://ozfish.org.au/event/canowindra-carp-muster20-july-2025

Grab your bait bags from Canowindra Connections Centre, bring your mates, an let’s see who reels in the glory!
